It's a matter of discipline (Juggling: The Return)

“If you fail to plan, you plan to fail”

In everything I do, I tend to be quite disciplined. In all situations it has only served me well. Therefore, I agree big time with the above statement.

Here are some examples of how I apply discipline in my life, to reach my goals:

The Goal: To constantly improve as a martial arts practitioner.

The Discipline: I choose the martial arts classes I go to (3x / week at least), then I stick to that choice and it is non-negotiable. The only barely acceptable reason to miss a class is because I have something else more important to do, at that precise time, and it can’t be postponed. “I don’t feel like it today” is no excuse (granted, it doesn’t happen very often… but it does! ).

The Goal: To become an excellent IT Engineer; I will not settle for average.

The Discipline: I put as much time as possible to my studying without compromising my sanity. I need my training and to get some social at least once a week, but I’m also not afraid to dedicate a full day working on labs or exercises if I need to.

The Goal: To reach an ever greater physical shape

The Discipline: Again, first thing is I go to my martial arts classes, as the training there is one of the best I’ve ever seen. Also, in the last couple of months I have read a huge lot about nutrition and fitness. Following that, I’ve started planning my meals and going to the gym for more myself-specific training. I’m already seeing impressive results to these new additions.

Seeing that I dedicate so much to the goals I care for, why the heck was I still at step one in regards to the challenges submitted to me on this site?

Well, this is it. For some reason, I didn’t plan. I somehow thought that just going through them as I felt like it I would produce some form of progress. How could I? I have no excuses.

When I realized this, I knew I couldn’t just write about it and say “Hey guys, here’s what I’ll do from now on”. And then you wouldn’t have heard of it for another 6 months.

Instead, here’s what I’ve DONE in the past week (see video above). Quite simply, I planned a specific amount of time to be dedicated to practice juggling each day of the past week. Sometimes I had busy days, but I was committed to it. Therefore I adapted myself to the situation and still went through. The same can be applied to every goal we set ourselves for, big or small.

I know, a week doesn’t sound like much. But it’s proof enough that I’ll stick to it, I know myself enough for that. Therefore, look for more regular posts from now on. There won’t always be a video like this (depends on my progress and the actual content I can work with), but I’ll come to blabber a bit (just like right now) in a regular fashion, and still keep you posted.

Hope you enjoyed the video!

PS. Another choice I have made is to write in english from now on. The only reason is to reach more people. I love french as much as I love Quebec but still, this is Internet-Land here. If you have any request to translate a past post in french or english, don’t hesitate to ask though.

PPS. Here’s the link to instructions I’ve found on how to learn juggling: How to juggle 3 balls – Cheers!
