Full flow! Very fun to practice. The most, I would say, unsettling part of starting this has been to realize how fast you can fatigue from combining all of these movements one after another. Which tells more of the story about how friggin’ fit gymnists have to be, what with the amazing flows these guys come up with.

Challenge #6: Straddle Press to Handstand

I finally shot my last session of Phase 2, Day 2 last week!

Note on the last movement: My line is kind of hampered by the top-end of the dumbbells’ knob; it seems even more apparent on film than I thought it would be. No matter; I’m getting my realz p-barz. SOON…

A note on that; while I’m waiting to receive them I’ll be taking a week-long break in regards to parallettes training. I’ve been training them for several months now, so before I jump to the last phase I feel it will be beneficial to do unrelated work for a while.

You know, like pulling 400lbs off the floor.

Challenge #8: Iron Cross

Lately I’ve received awesome technical and progression cues for the Rings Muscle-Up. Very high chances of moving back on that goal soon, for a while.

Challenge #6: Straddle Press to Handstand

Freestanding handstand is progressing at a very noticeable pace. I finally got to shoot myself holding it for more than 5 seconds!

Moreover, I recently watched Logan Christopher’s take on Press to Handstand progressions. Now that I’m able to do full handstand push-ups, I started touching again a beginner’s balancing position, the Frog Stand, as a way to start working on the pressing up. The first step is to just get off the knees and try to hold there. Believe me, I shall need to build strength in that area. Read moreRead more

Weekly Progress Report: 2012-05-29

A short but awesome week again. I’ll have a season-sized serving of the summer I’ve got so far, if you please.

Challenge #6: Straddle Press to Handstand

Still progressing on my handstand push-ups, I am now able to touch my head on the ground with hands at normal width!

The video cannot be shown at the moment. Please try again later.

Now, I would say that I can successfully do full handstand push-ups at last, but one thing tough. For some time now I’ve been practicing with my legs bent, feet on the wall, so that their adherence to the wall wouldn’t impede the fluidity of the movement. As I tried the full movement, socks on, with legs fully extended and close to the wall, I couldn’t complete the movement. Therefore there’s still some work to be done before the milestone is achieved, but I’ve never been this close to it.

I’ve also been practicing the kick-ups and balance per se, which I also feel are getting better. I hope I can crank a video soon, with me balancing for a couple of seconds at least.

Challenge #10: The PicLetters

I went through my Parkour Meet weekend photos, and managed to find two letters after all! Here they come:

Look! Dinosaurs!

Hola senoritas! Quick update this week, I’ve been busy.

Challenge #6: Straddle Press to Handstand

Today’s video features the progress on my Elbow Planche:

The video cannot be shown at the moment. Please try again later.

For the first time I feel secure and steady enough in my position to actually start counting down the time held on it. While it’s note completely straight for the total amount of time, it’s close enough, and refinements will happen over time. I’m very happy about where I am, compared to my beginnings on this balance. Big Bada Boom.

Challenge #6: Straddle Press to Handstand

So like I mentioned last time, since I’ve succeeded on my Tiger Bend goal, I’m now moving forward to practicing my kick-ups.

The video cannot be shown at the moment. Please try again later.

When I get my Elbow Planche down, I will practice freestanding handstands. As it happens, I’m pretty sure that by then, it’ll turn out to be fairly easy. All hail progressions! But let’s not claim victory before it happens. Not mentioning that after that’s there will still be quite a bit of work to do.
