Weekly Progress Report: 2012-06-05

Quick one!

Challenge #6: Straddle Press to Handstand

I got it! First time I achieve what I consider to be a full Handstand Push-up. As mentioned last week, I was already close but noticed that placing my legs 90 degrees to the wall removed some weight, thus still being away from the closest-to-real thing. The real thing being, of course, a freestanding handstand push-up.

Also, I should mention that I was able, for the first time, to hold a freestanding handstand for 10 seconds! This was actually one of my yearly goals, so I’m really glad to have made it this far. Weekly Progress Report: 2012-05-29

A short but awesome week again. I’ll have a season-sized serving of the summer I’ve got so far, if you please.

Challenge #6: Straddle Press to Handstand

Still progressing on my handstand push-ups, I am now able to touch my head on the ground with hands at normal width!

Now, I would say that I can successfully do full handstand push-ups at last, but one thing tough. For some time now I’ve been practicing with my legs bent, feet on the wall, so that their adherence to the wall wouldn’t impede the fluidity of the movement. As I tried the full movement, socks on, with legs fully extended and close to the wall, I couldn’t complete the movement. Therefore there’s still some work to be done before the milestone is achieved, but I’ve never been this close to it.

I’ve also been practicing the kick-ups and balance per se, which I also feel are getting better. I hope I can crank a video soon, with me balancing for a couple of seconds at least.

What a weekend. Such great weather!

Challenge #6: Straddle Press to handstand

Planche work still does me no good these days, but I think working presses is where I need to focus to get closer to the goal. As handstand push-ups get easier, it will allow me to start progressions on actual press-to-handstands, which is the biggest part of the full motion.
